About us

Tailoring the universal to suit the individual.

Apneista is a community of Professional freediving trainers and Yoga teachers. We train mostly in Amed Bali, but also teach and run freediving and yoga courses elsewhere in Indonesia and abroad.

We take great pleasure in sharing our passion and believe in adapting yoga and freedive training to suit individual needs. When we moved here in early 2010 Apneista was the first freediving community in Bali. Since then we have been continuously improving our programmes and facilities and now believe we have the best freediving setup in S.E. Asia. See the testimonials page.

We run most of our freedive training in and from our beautiful training space right on the beach at the best spot in Bali for freediving. We have a yoga sala and a funky café to chill out in between training sessions.

See Our freedive training space for more details

We see both Yoga and Freediving as life enriching and accessible activities for everyone, not just for the athletically gifted or spiritually minded. As much as possible we cater to the needs and interests of the individual while still making sure all safety aspects are dealt with in detail.

There should be no mystery in either Freedive training or Yoga, students should know exactly what they are doing at all times. Though we emphasis the meditative aspects, we believe strongly in the scientific basis of everything we teach, making use of the latest freedive training techniques and using oximeters for training purposes. We offer our own continuously expanding freedive curriculum with supplementary techniques taken from Yoga, meditation and neuro-psychology.

For those interested in moving into freediving as a profession we offer certification in the fast growing and globally recognised SSI freedive training system.

More about the place…

We first came to Amed in 2010 to teach some freedivng and ended up staying due the greet diving and chilled vibes.  Amed has got busier and become a bit a hub for freedivers in particular. The increase has been a positive thing, with increased work for locals, and better range of restaurants, places to stay and activities for visitors.

The Amed vibe is still sleepy and if you drive in any direction off the main ‘strip’ you will find beautiful hidden valleys, temples and volcanoes. This area still has the authentic, old-school Balinese rhythm of life. There are 20 kms of good shore diving with three notable shipwrecks, all accessible for confident freedivers. For many visitors it’s their favourite place in Bali. For us it’s the only place we could live in Bali.

The Green Leaf Cafe, our favourite chill space in Amed.

On site we are very lucky to have the 'The Green Leaf Cafe' with the fabulous Ketut, Made, Kadek, Ari and Nengeh. These wonderful ladies look after us and our students, supplying great tasting food and amazing drinks. Apneista Life without these ladies would not be the same, and they do some great food and drink too.

While the focus of the cafe is on our freediving students, the space is open to the public, so friends and family can wait for freedivers in the beachside lounge, listening to music, playing board-games and fill up on amazing food and drink.

As Amed has become a bit of freediving hub In recent years, the space has become a bit of a meeting point for the broader Bali freediving community. Even though we're not really big on the competitive aspects of free-diving we've still had 4 world champions through the doors:)
