Bali

Our training space is built right on the beach, in the small village of Jemeluk on the spectacular Amed coast. For years Jemeluk bay has been known a great site for SCUBA divers. Since Apneista started training there in early 2010 it has quickly become recognised as the best spot in Bali for freediving courses. The walls are deep but sheltered from strong currents and rich with marine life.

The creation of this space has taken a long time and has been a labour of love, growing organically to fill our needs as freedivers, yogis and lovers of good food.

The freediving centre is five steps away from the waters edge, swim 10m from shore and there is beautiful coral, vibrant marine life and Gregorian sea fans sloping away to still deep waters.

This is the other Bali, the pace is slow, the locals are friendly and the landscape is stunning. On one side there’s paddy fields and lush green hills reaching up to the beautiful Mt Agung volcano. Towards to the South the road winds round rugged headlines with beautiful bays and tiny villages. It is probably one of the most beautiful coastal drives in Bali.

Our beautiful yoga shala with alang-alang grass roof opens onto the beach looking across the ocean to Lombok with views of Mt Rinjani. The atmosphere is relaxed, with daytime classes conducted in the sala. Decked out with bean bags and low tables it’s the perfect place to relax after a mornings freediving.

There is none of the hectic nightlife of Kuta and Seminyak (thankfully) though there are a few live music venues. That said, there is much more than just freediving and yoga in Amed, see things to do in Amed.

During the day the wonderful ladies from our cafe “Green Leaf Cafe’ work hard to serve you healthy Salads, Burrito’s and a range of caffeine free teas, beverages and snacks. For those who must indulge there’s great coffee and chocolate cake!

There’s toilet and changing facilities as well as the equipment store and baskets to leave your belongings. The Centre is growing to become a Freediving/travellers hub and is a great place to meet others, find out about local information, specialist activities and social nights.

YOGA EVERYDAY! ALL LEVEL CLASSES. These classes are open to the general public as well as our freediving students and are ideal opportunity to further your practice and for those new to yoga to gain greater understanding and explore the freediving/yoga relationship.

Jemeluk is just 12 km from Tulamben, home of the famous USS Liberty wreck (where we often dive when conditions are suitable). The wreck is brimming with life, with safe overhead environments and exciting swim-throughs. It’s a free-divers paradise, the perfect site to practice free-diving for the sheer pleasure of the silent underwater experience. See freediving the liberty wreck.
